COVID-19 Updates

A Letter from Virginia Symphony Orchestra President and CEO Karen M. Philion

For almost 100 years, we have made it our mission to bring transformative musical performances to the stage and beyond – meeting you and your neighbors in communities, schools, and even healthcare facilities.

During this unprecedented time in our country, we miss our ability to bring the joy and healing power of live music to you, but I know that we will be together again very soon. We are encouraged by those who have reached out and asked how they can help and support us as we navigate these unknown waters. Our patrons are like family to us and we are grateful.

As you know, we’ve had to postpone many of our upcoming concerts and suspend educational and community programs at the very height of our season.  While this is absolutely the right thing to do, the attendant loss of revenue will have a profound impact on our work and our mission.

While there is much we are uncertain of, it is exactly in these moments that we are fortunate to rely on the love and support of our donors and friends. Approximately half of our annual revenue comes from contributions from people like you. If these gifts don’t come in, our ability to rebound from this crisis could be jeopardized.

With this in mind, there are a number of positive things you can do to support the VSO musicians and ensure we are here to make music when this crisis passes. Please consider making an investment in the work of the VSO during this time. We thank you in advance for your care of our musicians and their important work.
