Virginia Symphony Orchestra Presents Annual Symphony Under the Stars
Free outdoor concerts in Williamsburg, Hampton, Yorktown, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach
HAMPTON ROADS, VA (August 3, 2016) — The Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s annual series of fall outdoor concerts, Symphony Under the Stars, begins August 31 with five concerts taking place over Labor Day week and weekend.
The Symphony Under the Stars concerts, conducted by the orchestra’s dynamic Resident Conductor, Benjamin Rous, are a prelude to the Virginia Symphony’s 2016-17 concert season.
All are invited to bring family and friends to experience Virginia’s premier professional symphony orchestra performing a family-friendly program of selections that include John Stafford Smith’s Star Spangled Banner, John Williams’ Suite from Jaws and John Philip Sousa’s Hands Across the Sea. The program will also feature a piece by local composer James Hosay titled Rivers of the Chesapeake: The Elizabeth.

Admired for his dynamism on the podium, Benjamin Rous began his tenure with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra in 2010 and quickly became a favorite among audiences throughout the Hampton Roads region. In 2013, he was promoted to Resident Conductor and took on an expanded role in the VSO’s calendar. He performs on every VSO series including Classics, Regional Classics, Pops, Young People’s Concerts, PB&J Family Concerts and multiple series in outdoor venues. In the summers, he serves as faculty conductor at Greenwood Music Camp in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts.
