Hampton Roads, VA — The Virginia Symphony Orchestra will present selections from Wagner’s epic masterpiece, The Ring.
Wagner’s cycle of multiple German music dramas is based on ancient Nordic stories as well as the Nibelungenlied, a heroic poem that tells the story of a dragon-slayer, Siegfried.
Originally a 15-hour production comprised of four unique operas, conductor JoAnn Falletta will stitch together movements from the epic tale of love, greed, revenge, and jealousy in a powerhouse performance from the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.
“A timeless story unfolds in words and spectacular music – the greatest fairy tale ever told!” said Falletta. “Wagner’s RING has inspired such epic adventures as The Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings! The Virginia Symphony will perform music that will amaze and thrill you, and take you from the depths of the Rhine River to the heights of heavenly Valhalla.”
Performances are on Friday, Oct. 20, 8 p.m. at Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News; Saturday, Oct. 21, 8 p.m. at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk, and Sunday, Oct. 22, 2:30 p.m.at Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach.
