HeartStrings program links children to music opportunities

October 7, 2016

The Kroc Center’s HeartStrings program, in partnership with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, is back.

The Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s classically trained musicians, along with creative activities, work to build character and develop an appreciation for music in young students.

Now in its third year, the program begins with a two-week summer camp where children are introduced to music basics, the components of the violin and more. Instruction and performance opportunities continue through the academic year.

In a recent announcement, the Kroc Center said Angelicos Violins, Hampton Roads Community Foundation, Norfolk Commission on the Arts and Humanities, Norfolk Public Schools, United Way of South Hampton Roads and Virginia Commission for the Arts make the program possible.

The program’s school year session is under way and set to conclude Dec. 15. Upon resuming Jan. 3, the program is set to run through May 11.
