Music director of Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Virginia Symphony elected to Academy

BUFFALO, New York — The music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Virginia Symphony has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

JoAnn Falletta will be inducted into the prestigious academy during an October ceremony in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Members of the 236-year-old honorary society contribute to Academy publications and studies of science and technology policy, energy and global security, social policy, as well as the humanities, arts, and education.

Falletta is among 213 people who will be inducted this year. She has served on the National Council on the Arts and her recordings with the Buffalo orchestra have earned Grammy awards.
