The Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s matinee concert last year for senior citizens was such a success that it is expanding the concept to three performances this year.

The Afternoon Encores shows will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Chesapeake Conference Center, Wednesday at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and May 29 at Denbigh Community Center in Newport News.

The program will include classic highlights and popular tunes like Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 and songs from “West Side Story” and will last for about an hour and 15 minutes, with no intermission.

Wheelchairs, scooters and similar devices will be accommodated.

Tickets are $25, or $20 for groups, and must be bought in advance at: www.virginiasymphony.org, 757-892-6366, or the VSO box office at 150 Boush St., Suite 201, Norfolk, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.
