HAMPTON ROADS, VA [MAY 18, 2017] – The Virginia Symphony Orchestra will present concert designed especially for the Hampton Roads Senior community on June 8, 2017 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

Under the baton of Resident Conductor Benjamin Rous, the VSO will take the audience on a musical tour through the years with romantic strings, rousing marches, and toe-tapping favorites. We’ll even throw in a sing-along for the young at heart, led by Chorusmaster Robert Shoup!  It will be a chance to have a look back in time with familiar light classics and favorite popular tunes, from Rodgers and Hammerstein, to Tchaikovsky to Cole Porter.

Accommodations for wheelchairs, scooters and other assistive devices will be available. The concert will last approximately an hour and fifteen minutes, with no intermission.

The matinee performance starts at 2:00 p.m. and tickets are $25. Ticket prices for groups of 10 or more are just $20. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and will not be available at the door.

Admired for his dynamism on the podium, Benjamin Rous began his tenure with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra in 2010 and quickly became a favorite among audiences throughout the Hampton Roads region. In 2013, he was promoted to Resident Conductor and took on an expanded role in the VSO’s calendar. In the summers, he serves as faculty conductor at Greenwood Music Camp in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts. 

Under the leadership of GRAMMY-winning music director JoAnn Falletta, the Virginia Symphony Orchestra is Virginia’s preeminent professional symphony orchestra with a mission of inspiring, educating and connecting audiences of all ages.
