Virginia Symphony Orchestra closes 2015-16 Classics season

Virginia Symphony Orchestra’s Grammy-winning music director JoAnn Falletta closes her 25th anniversary Classics season Sunday.

The orchestra will perform Mahler’s Fifth Symphony from April 1-3 in Newport News, Norfolk and Virginia Beach.

The program also includes violinist Brendon Elliott, performing Glazunov’s Violin Concerto. A Virginia native, Elliott made his debut with the Hampton University Orchestra. He was 10 at the time. Elliott is also a three-time national Sphinx Competition semifinalist and Curtis Institute of Music student.

This isn’t Elliott’s first time joining the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared with the New York Philharmonic, among other professional and community orchestras.

Performances are 8 p.m., April 1, at Ferguson Center for the Arts in Newport News; 8 p.m., April 2, at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk; and 2:30 p.m., April 3, at Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach.
